Robert Loerzel was born in Anchorage, Alaska, where he lived the first nine years of his life. He spent the later part of his childhood in Onarga, a small town in central Illinois, then attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Loerzel now lives in the suburbs of Chicago. He has worked for Pioneer Press Newspapers since 1989, first as a news reporter then later as a news editor. He currently edits and writes for the arts and entertainment section. He has received numerous awards from the Illinois Press Association, the Chicago Headline Club, and other press organizations for investigative reporting, feature stories, and his editing work. He runs this Web site as well as www.robertloerzel.com, which features samples of his journalism, fiction and artwork.
